The clock stops when he's traded. Larkin will go to one of these 10 teams. Detroit says it wants “a decent player or two” back, not futures.

New Jersey traded for Connor Hellebuyck last week. Some teams collect stamps.

So far, that's enough for

  • – Lafayette coneys

Or American. We're not getting into that today.

  • – Larkin #71 jerseys

C patch not included. Not anymore.

  • – Hot-N-Ready pizzas

Ready to go. Unlike some centers we know.

  • – lower-bowl tickets at Little Caesars Arena

To watch somebody else take his faceoffs.

  • – two-liters of Faygo

    Rock & Rye, obviously.

  • – months of rent in Corktown

One-bedroom. Walkable to the arena, for whoever's still playing there.

  • – octopuses to throw on the ice

Wrong time of year. Felt right anyway.

  • – bags of Better Made chips

Made in Detroit. Staying in Detroit.

A letter from Hockeytown

We gave you the C. You gave us a trade list.

Dylan Larkin is from Waterford, Michigan. The Red Wings drafted him 15th overall in 2014. He became the rare thing Detroit fans treasure most: a hometown kid wearing the captain's C.

In 2023 he signed on for eight more years at $69.6 million. In February he won Olympic gold. He was on track to be the guy who stuck around until the rebuild finally paid off.

Then came the trade request in May. The three-team list. The lost captaincy. The list that grew to ten. And on Thursday night, against Chicago, an empty spot in the lineup.

The Red Wings won't take a bad deal, and Larkin won't play until he gets one. Now Detroit has suspended him, and that standoff costs him $41,237.11 a day.

When he's traded, the clock stops. Whatever comes next won't be counted here.
